An adventure, with friendly people!
Vivian at the front desk was an angel, and the entire staff was most friendly and helpful. Tea and bits of dried fruit were served in the lobby from 3 til 6 pm daily, and provided a nice place to rest and recover after a day of walking Saigon. The property is older, but some modernization was visible, like new bathroom fixtures and modern elevators.
The hotel was apparently originally two buildings with an adjoining wall, and they appear to be joined only at the lobby; there are separate elevators for each side. In the case of the left building, the elevator "ground" floor is reached only by climbing a set of stairs and walking through an area used to store and process large bags of laundry as well as building materials and excess furniture. The room was tiny, roughly 10'X12', and although there was a refrigerator there was no microwave. The bathroom was fine, though the tub shower was high and without grab bars, so getting in and out was difficult and risky for this senior citizen. The breakfast buffet was extensive, with several fruits, coffee and tea, and asian dishes in several chafing dishes, but unless you got there before about 8 am, there was no heat under the chafing dishes, and the food was stone cold. There was no microwave that might have been useful for warming things, but there was a toaster oven. I was afraid to put buffet items in the toaster oven fearing fire from grease dripping on the burner, so I used slices of white bread under them to absorb the grease; this worked well. There were eggs, fried or boiled, and beef or chicken pho available from a menu; I availed myself of pho and fried eggs over on many mornings rather than trying to warm buffet items. The French great and rolls were really good.
